Frequently asked questions
1What is "Sublimation Printing" and why is it preferred for apparel printing?
Sublimation printing is a digital printing technique that involves the transfer of dye onto materials, primarily fabrics such as polyester and polymer-coated fabrics. The process allows for the creation of vibrant, high-quality, and durable prints on various items, including garments, sportswear, accessories, and promotional products.
2What are the advantages of using sublimation printing for garments?
- Vibrancy and Detail: Sublimation printing produces high-resolution, full-color prints with exceptional vibrancy and detail. The process allows for the reproduction of intricate designs and photographic images on garments, capturing fine details and gradients.
- Durability and Comfort: Sublimation prints are integrated into the fabric, making them more durable than surface-applied prints. The prints do not add extra layers or textures to the fabric, preserving its softness and breathability. This results in comfortable garments that can withstand repeated washing and maintain their visual appeal over time.
3What is the lead-time on sublimation printing?
Lead-times vary for every project - please contact me directly for exact lead times on printing / design.
4How does sublimation printing work?
1. The process begins with the creation of a digital design using graphic design software.
2. Using special sublimation inks, the design is printed onto a transfer paper. These inks have the unique property of converting from a solid to a gas without passing through a liquid phase.
3. The printed design on the transfer paper is then placed onto the surface of the polyester fabric or coated substrate. The transfer is secured tightly to ensure proper heat and pressure distribution.
4. The transfer paper and fabric are subjected to heat and pressure using a heat press machine. The sublimation inks on the transfer paper turn into a gas and permeate the fibers of the fabric, resulting in a permanent, full-color image.
5. After the application of heat and pressure, the material is allowed to cool down. This cooling process fixes the sublimated image onto the fabric, making it resistant to fading, cracking, or peeling.
